Guide

playing Síkírá-bù

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to play Síkírá-bù

Number of players

Síkírá-bù can be played with 1, 2, 3, or 4 players, or even in groups.

Initial Tile Selection

Players randomly pick tiles from the bag to determine who plays first. The player with the tile bearing the letter that appears first in the Yorùbá alphabet order goes first.

Emptying the Tile Bag

Remove all tiles from the ziplock bag and place them on the playing table

Rack Setup

Each player selects seven tiles and places them on their rack.

First Word Placement

The first player places a word on the board, ensuring it reaches the middle grid square either vertically or horizontally.

Scoring

The player calculates their score by adding the numbers on the tiles used. Special squares on the board, such as double letter (ìsọdọ̀pọ̀ lẹ́tà lẹ́ẹ̀mejì), triple letter (ìsọdọ̀pọ̀ lẹ́tà lẹ́ẹ̀mẹta), double word (ìsọdọ̀pọ̀ ọ̀rọ̀ lẹ́ẹ̀mejì), and triple word (ìsọdọ̀pọ̀ ọ̀rọ̀ lẹ́ẹ̀mẹta), are taken into consideration when calculating the score.

Turn Miss

A player misses a turn if he plays an incorrect word or misplaces letter e for ẹ, o for ọ, or s for ṣ.

Using All Tiles

If a player uses all seven tiles in one turn, they earn a 50-point jackpot (odù).

Gameplay Continues

Players take turns forming words on the board, with each player trying to earn the highest score possible.

Final Scoring

The game ends when all tiles have been used.

Declaring the Winner

The player or group of players with the highest score is declared the winner and crowned champion.
